Why page duration needs context

Time on page becomes useful when it is read alongside the page, the journey, and the action that followed.

A speed gauge representing the careful interpretation of time-based metrics

The short version

A long visit can mean that a page was useful, confusing, left open in a background tab, or simply read carefully. Duration is a clue, not a verdict.

Pair duration with page type, entry source, and the next meaningful action. A documentation page and a pricing page should not be judged by the same expectation.

Privacy-safe analytics can provide the aggregate duration a team needs without adding a persistent identity to the visit. The interpretation still belongs to the people who know the product.
